Cover Letter

I am Gaurav Kuwar and I am a student at City College of New York and I am majoring in Computer Science. I expected this class to be the same as any other English class, however it was definitely different. In the other English classes I had taken in the past, they felt repetitive and I felt as if I was never going to use what I learned every again. However, even though this class shared many of the topics similar to the English class I took it fall, every assignment had a purpose, and I could imagine myself using skills like writing a memo or technical description in the real world, and in my field of computer science.

The four major assignments that I wrote in this class were the memo, technical description, lab report and finally the technical proposal in a group of four. For the first assignment, which was the memo it was a little difficult for be to begin on, because before coming to this class I didn’t even know what a memo looked like and I did not know what the professor expected from the assignment, however I was able to figure it out and write the memo in the appropriate format. For the next assignment the technical description, I was understanding for the class functioned more and I pick an object that very important in my field and no one thinks of it, which is the keyboard which in the field of computer science is used every day. I wrote a technical description specifically the apple keyboard, its history and all its description. For the lab report I wrote about methods of recycling and how it will reduce the waste created by the city. For the last group project, technical proposal, we wrote about ways to speed up communication with 5g networks, during times of emergency so more lives can be saved.

At the end of each project we wrote a reflection for the project, we wrote about the rhetorical situations and the course learning outcomes we accomplished during the assignment. We wrote about what the purpose of the project was, who the audience of the project was. We checked which of the eight course learning outcomes we meet in the assignment. One of the concepts that sticked with me through the reflections was the audience. I didn’t really think about it before, but I came to realize how every work has an audience that we keep in mind when creating.

In the middle due to the corona outbreak, we had to move completely to online classes, which made it hard to focus on the class, since we are always staying at home. However, I was eventually able to get used to it and complete all the assignments for the class.

Sincerely,

Gaurav Kuwar
